REFLECTION
My Five Biggest Takeaways From The Weekend

This weekend, I was privileged to attend the 5th International Fitness Summit in Ibiza.

I always look forward to this event, especially when it's hosted abroad, because it offers the chance to learn from some of the best in the industry—and, of course, share a gin and tonic with them afterwards!

After events like these, I always reflect on the key lessons I’ve learned, and today, I want to share my top five takeaways from this weekend.

These insights can help you improve your body, brain, and business.

Let’s dive in…

Number One - Success Leaves Clues

One of the most powerful things I’ve learned for self-development, growing my social media, and expanding my business is to study how other successful people have done it.

Sitting in a room for an hour listening to expert speakers or hearing someone’s story of going from zero to success, you often pick up golden nuggets of wisdom you won’t find in books or courses.

These real-life experiences contain invaluable clues about what it takes to succeed.

Learn from others.

Success always leaves clues, and if you can attend an event where successful people are sharing their strategies, don’t hesitate.

Go, listen, and take notes—you’ll come away with insights you never even knew you needed!

Number Two - The Best Investment You Can Make Is in Yourself

One reason people avoid events like these is the cost.

They’re not always cheap, and worrying about spending that money is easy.

But here’s the truth: rs

A cost is something that doesn’t offer a return.

On the other hand, an investment provides a return that far exceeds what you put in—if you invest in the right places.

And investing in yourself is one of the best decisions you can make!

For example, I met a woman from Czechia who has attended these events for four years.

In that time, she’s grown her social media following to 90,000 and tripled the size of her fitness business.

Every year, she tries to convince other fitness coaches from Czechia to join her, but they always say they can’t afford it.

Ironically, these are the same coaches who repeatedly ask her how she’s grown her business.

They’re too afraid to spend the money to learn for themselves, and that’s precisely what’s holding them back.

The moral?

If you want to see significant returns—physically, mentally, and financially—you have to be willing to invest in yourself.

Number Three - It’s Okay If People Don’t Like You

While at the bar in Ibiza, a man approached me and said, “I thought you were an arsehole.”

I smiled because, believe it or not, this wasn’t the first time I’d heard something like that.

(Two of my best friends in the industry initially thought the same thing about me before getting to know me better.)

The man explained that he had walked past my talk at the International Fitness Summit in Brighton last year and instantly judged me.

Based on a first impression, he put me in the “arsehole” category.

But after attending my talk this weekend, his opinion completely changed.

The lesson here?

You can’t control what other people think of you, especially when they haven’t taken the time to know you.

Too many people let the fear of being disliked stop them from doing what they truly want.

You can’t please everyone—and you shouldn’t try to.

Instead, focus on staying true to your message and your actions.

Some people will misunderstand you if you're authentic, and that’s okay.

Over time, they might even come around, as this gentleman did.

The key is to keep going, no matter what others think.

Number Four - The Power of Networking

You’ve probably heard the phrase, “It’s not what you know; it’s who you know.”

While knowledge is essential, networking is a powerful tool that can accelerate your growth in ways you might not expect.

Spending four days on a small Spanish island with some of the biggest names in the fitness industry and other coaches and clients hungry for growth allowed me to expand my network significantly.

These aren’t just surface-level connections; they are relationships with like-minded individuals with whom you can collaborate, bounce ideas off, and learn from.

In today’s distracted world, having in-person conversations with others is becoming rare.

Yet, it’s one of the most potent strategies for moving to the next level.

Networking helps you connect with the right people and filter out those who aren’t genuine or aligned with your goals.

If you haven’t attended an event this year, I challenge you to find one before the year is up.

Put yourself in a room with people who want the same things you do—you might be surprised how much it will change your life.

Number Five - The Joy of Missing Out (JOMO)

When you’re in Ibiza, it’s tempting to party every night until the sun comes up.

After all, Ibiza is home to some of the biggest and best nightclubs in the world.

This weekend, I was asked multiple times to join people for a night out at one of these clubs.

And trust me, it was tempting. It wasn’t that I didn’t want to go

(and I did stay up pretty late chatting with people at the hotel most nights)

But I knew that if I went to the clubs, I’d likely stay out until morning and spend the next day recovering.

That would ruin my limited time to connect with people and take advantage of the event.

As I watched people getting ready to go, I had a severe case of FOMO (fear of missing out).

But I also reminded myself of its opposite: JOMO—the joy of missing out.

The following day, I saw the benefits of my decision in the faces of the people who had just returned from a night on the tiles!

Self-control isn’t about having superhuman willpower…

It’s about not putting yourself in situations where your willpower will be constantly tested.

Sometimes, it’s okay to miss out, especially when the payoff for skipping a night out is far greater than the momentary fun of attending it.

This weekend reminded me of the importance of constant learning, investing in yourself, and surrounding yourself with the right people.

Whether attending events, embracing JOMO, or building a network, all of these takeaways boil down to one core principle:

Growth.

So, take what resonates with you from these five lessons and apply them in your life.

Your body, brain, and business will thank you for it!
