MINDSET
What Get’s Measured

Picture this: you step on a scale, but instead of seeing your weight, you see... nothing.
Sounds crazy, right?
But this little tweak could completely change how you think about weight loss.
Researchers tested a “no-display scale” with people who wanted to lose weight.
They split them into two groups – one using the no-display scale and the other using a regular scale.
After just 12 weeks, the no-display group had better results.
They lost between -0.88% and -0.40% of their weight.
Meanwhile, the regular scale users had mixed results, with some even gaining weight, ranging from -0.78% to +1.22%.
So, what’s the magic here?
It’s all about intention over information.
The Benefit of Stepping on the Scale
Stepping on a scale daily is like telling yourself, “Hey, I care about my health.”
It’s a tiny ritual that keeps your health goals front and centre.
Think about it..
If you step on the scale in the morning are you more likely to grab oatmeal or a doughnut for breakfast?
Do you take the stairs or the elevator when you get to work?
These little choices stack up throughout the day.
The Downside of Traditional Scales
Traditional scales can mess with your head.
Weight fluctuates naturally, and these ups and downs can be a real downer.
Behavioural economics calls it lose aversion
We feel losses more intensely than gains.
So, a three-pound gain feels like a punch in the gut, while a three-pound loss doesn’t give us nearly the same high.
Plus, we expect our weight to reflect our daily efforts immediately, but it doesn’t.
You could eat a salad, skip dessert, go for a run, and still see a higher number on the scale the next day.
Frustrating, right?
Or you could binge on junk food and Netflix and see a drop in your weight.
It’s confusing and demotivating, making you think, “Why bother?”
The Power of Intention over Information
Enter the no-display scale!
This genius tool shifts the focus from immediate numerical feedback to consistent healthy habits.
By removing the display, it helps you avoid the mental traps of loss aversion and the frustration of delayed results.
It’s about playing the long game and fostering a positive, sustainable mindset toward your health.
This principle isn’t just for weight loss. It’s a life hack.
Want to improve any area of your life?
Reinforce your commitment through daily rituals while minimising negative feedback.
Reflect on your goals and set daily signals that remind you of them without getting bogged down by fluctuating outcomes.
Focus on consistent actions, and watch how sustainable, fulfilling progress unfolds.
