HARSH TRUTH #4
THE WORLD WON’T NOTICE WHEN YOU’RE GONE

Be as present as you can to the people that you love!

I want to introduce you to James Waters.

He was born in 1829 and died between 1861 and 1871.

He had a wife and, I believe, six children. James was my great-great-grandfather, and I only stumbled upon James while digging through an online family tree.

I exist because of him, yet all I know about him is pieced together from a few sparse internet searches.

I’m sure James had dreams and aspirations, and I’m definitely sure he had doubts and fears about the future.

He might have spent decades paying for a house, building up many material items, and even trying to build a legacy.

Yet, 150 years later, he’s merely a footnote in history, barely mentioned or remembered—apart from this blog post.

Why am I sharing James’ story with you?

It reminds you of a stark reality:

Life is short; you live it, and then you’re gone, and a few decades later, you will be as relevant in life as James, just a faint echo in the corridors of history.

Next year, I want you to live in the moment, stop and pause for that breath of fresh air, and get outside in the evening to look at the stars.

Be present with the people that you love and let go of all the shit in your head that doesn’t matter.

We get just one shot at this incredible journey on Earth.

It’s astounding how life seems to slow down when we start to savour and appreciate every bit of it.

Takeaway: Like James, we'll be history one day; make the most of now, enjoy every second.

I hope you enjoyed my Fourth Harsh Truth!

I’ll be back in your inbox this Friday for Harsh Truth #5
