Habits
Built for Calm or Ready for Chaos?

Everyone’s a ninja monk when life’s calm.

You’ve got your green smoothie, your morning routine, and your 10k steps before 9am.

You’re the CEO of self-discipline until life throws a spanner in the works!

Or a suitcase.

Or a crying toddler at 3am.

And that’s where most people fall flat.

Not because their routines didn’t work…

But because they were never battle-tested.

Enter The Real Test!

It’s easy to stick to your habits when everything’s running smoothly.

Same bed. Same meals. Same schedule.

But habits that only survive under perfect conditions?

They’re not habits.

They’re rituals of convenience.

The real test?

  • A last-minute work trip.

  • Jet lag and airport delays.

  • Eating out three times a day.

  • Kids off school.

  • A hotel gym that looks like a broom closet.

These aren’t excuses...

They’re proving grounds.

Because what good is a habit that falls apart the second you leave your postcode?

So when life gets messy, don’t panic.

Don’t toss the routine.

Don’t smash the “f*ck it” button and promise yourself, “I’ll start again Monday.”

Instead.. battle-test it.

  • You planned for five workouts this week?

Great. Now try to knock out three in a hotel room with just your bodyweight and a towel.

  • You usually track your food?

Awesome. Now eyeball a decent protein portion and leave the dessert tray alone.

  • You normally meditate for ten minutes at 6am?

Cool. Squeeze in three minutes during a layover, even if it’s standing by the sink in the airport bathroom. (Maybe skip closing your eyes.)

Life will never stop throwing lemons at you.

And the people who thrive?

They’re not the ones with the “perfect” habits.

They’re the ones with the most durable ones.

  • Routines that flex but don’t break.

  • Habits that adapt under fire.

  • Systems that run even when conditions aren’t ideal.

Think backup plans, fallback reps and minimum effective doses.

Not “all-or-nothing”…

Just “always-something”.

How to Battle-Test Yours…

#1 - Audit your habits.
Which ones fall apart the second life gets busy?

#2 - Pre-plan for chaos.
What’s your “Plan B” version of each habit? Shorter, scrappier, but still done?

#3 - Celebrate the imperfect reps.
A 15-minute walk beats sitting still.
A protein bar trumps “I had no choice but KFC.”

#4 - Reflect after the storm.
What held? What broke? Where can you reinforce for next time?

You don’t need more “perfectweeks…

You need more resilient habits.

And if your habits can survive that?

You’ve already won!

I hope you enjoyed this week’s Knowledge Bomb.

See you next week for another instalment.
