WHY NOTHING MATTERS… AND THAT'S AMAZING

Let’s Talk About Nihilism

At first glance, it sounds dark. Maybe even a little hopeless…

“ Nothing matters. Life is meaningless. We’re just specs of dust on a rock, spinning through space until we die”

Bleak, right?

That’s where most people stop.

They hear “nothing matters” and spiral into apathy, cynicism, or disengagement.

They treat it like a dead end.

But what if that’s not where it ends?

What if it’s where freedom begins?

Optimistic Nihilism offers a different lens.

If nothing matters in the grand, cosmic sense…

Then you’re free.

Free from other people’s opinions.

Free from chasing legacy, perfection, or approval.

Free to choose what matters to you.

Life stops being a cruel joke, and becomes a blank canvas.

You don’t need divine purpose to feel fulfilled.

You don’t need applause to feel proud.

You just need intention.

Curiosity.

Courage.

One idea that really drives this home?

Memento MoriRemember you must die.

Most people hear that and flinch.

Sounds grim, they say.

But I see it as fuel.

When you fully accept that your time is finite, you stop wasting it.

You stop drifting through autopilot days and start making moves

Not because they’re guaranteed to matter…

But because you’re alive, and you can.

That’s the part most people miss.

One chapter from my book Hard Stuff, Easy Life that struck a chord with readers is called…

“No One Cares.”

Harsh? Maybe.

But also freeing.

That fear you get when you post something online?

Or wear something different?

Or try something new and worry what people might think?

It’s based on a lie.

Because the truth is, no one’s watching that closely.

Most people are too wrapped up in their own thoughts and insecurities to critique your every move.

And once you really understand that?

You stop performing.

You stop holding back.

You start living.

TL/DR

  • Embrace Memento Mori — Let the reality of death sharpen your focus and deepen your appreciation.

  • Remember: No one cares as much as you think. Let that truth set you free.

  • Stop hunting for meaning. Start creating it.

  • You don’t need the world to clap. Learn to clap for yourself.

You don’t need to change the world.

Just live well while you’re here.

And that?

That’s more than enough.

I hope you enjoyed this week’s Knowledge Bomb.

See you next week for another instalment.

P.S. If this resonated, I explore these ideas more deeply through personal stories, blunt truths, and practical tools in Hard Stuff, Easy Life. One chapter in particular, “No One Cares,” might be worth a reread if you’ve already got the book. If not, you can grab a copy [here].
