Journaling is a Joke!

At least, that’s what the comments said.

This week I posted a video about why I wake up at 4:30am.

Nothing fancy — just me doing some breathwork, stretching, and journaling and the fact that it’s the only quiet time I get without the kids distracting me (Easter Holidays Yay!)

The video went semi-viral.

But what really caught my attention?

The comment section was full of men laughing at the journaling part.

I’ve been in the army.

I’ve trained elite clients.

And I’ve seen what happens when men don’t give themselves time to reflect…

We become numb.

Disconnected.

And then one day, it all comes crashing down.

When the joke is no longer funny…

Here’s the reality for men in the UK:

  • 3 out of 4 suicides are by men.

  • The leading cause of death for men under 50? Suicide.

  • 40% of men won’t talk to anyone about their mental health — not even their mates.

But sure, let’s mock a guy who writes in a notebook each night.

Let’s act like hiding your thoughts and feeling is “Manly”

Journaling isn’t “soft.” It’s a f***ing weapon!

What Journaling Actually Does…

Daily journaling can:

  • Reduce anxiety

  • Improve sleep

  • Increase focus

  • Sharpen self-awareness

  • Build emotional resilience

And unlike scrolling TikTok or smashing a bottle of Rioja to “unwind” — it doesn’t ruin your dopamine or your next morning.

How to Start (No Crystals Required)

Grab a notepad.

Every night for the next 30 days, answer these five questions:

  1. What is something you're grateful for today and why?

  2. What made you smile or feel good today?

  3. What went wrong today — and what did it teach you?

  4. What’s one thing you can do better tomorrow?

  5. Did you connect with someone today? If so, who?

That’s it.

No fluff. No frills.

Just clarity.

You don’t have to share it.

You don’t even have to be “good” at it.

Just write.

Let it move through you.

And see what happens.

If journaling makes you laugh, maybe it’s because the idea of facing your own thoughts is scary.

Which probably means... You need it most.

Let’s raise the standard, not the stigma.

Your mental health isn’t a joke.

Neither is your potential!

I hope you enjoyed this week’s Knowledge Bomb.

See you next week for another instalment.
